History enthusiast Lars (Year 9) and History Scholar Tobias (Year 8) combined their passion for the past to create Leighton Park’s very first Pop-Up Museum. Drawing from their personal collections and encouraging contributions from staff and students, they curated a unique exhibition of historical artefacts for the school community to explore and enjoy.
Among the fascinating items on display were a 1920s gramophone, rare documents from the Leighton Park archives, Soviet-era pins, and wartime memorabilia such as silk escape maps printed with Indian ink, a World War Two uniform, and publications from His Majesty’s Stationery Office.
Reflecting on the inspiration behind the project, Lars explained, “People still need to learn about different parts of history, and we thought there would be things people wanted to share but had never had the chance to. We just wanted to try something new and see what others had. We wanted everyone to feel included, even if they didn’t bring anything, so they could still experience and engage physically with history.”
Sally Saunders, Assistant Head of Pupil Personal Development and History Teacher, praised their efforts, saying, “I am so proud of them and how they have organised this event.”
Leighton Park is proud to facilitate students wonderful ideas that bring creativity and passion into our community and bringing students and staff together. We hope to see the Pop-Up Museum as a new LP tradition! Not only is History a GCSE option at Leighton Park, but an A Level and IB Diploma option too.
