We are delighted to share the outstanding achievements of Pip (Year 7), who recently competed at Junior Olympic level in diving in Orlando. Remarkably, this was Pip’s first-ever international competition, and she has only been diving for just over a year!
Pip delivered an exceptional performance, returning home with three medals. She achieved Bronze on the 3-metre springboard, competing against 23 athletes, placed 6th out of 16 on the 1-metre board, and finished 5th in the team event. Reflecting on her experience, Pip said: “My favourite event was the 3 metres because I got to do some of my better dives. When you get up on the board it’s a much higher platform and if you’re doing a somersault onto your head, you can get really scared mid-air!” Judging by her medal haul, Pip certainly proved she can keep her nerve on the boards.
Following her impressive performance, Pip has now been invited to compete at the USA National Qualifiers in Tallahassee on 25–26 April, where she will once again compete at Junior Olympic level. In recognition of her talent, she has also been invited to train with the Junior Olympic squad in Florida over the school holidays, alongside continuing her training in the UK with her home club.
Pip’s mum, Sarah, commented: “Since Pip started diving a year ago, it’s been truly inspiring to watch her grow in confidence and perform so well at her first international competition. We are so proud of her and everything she’s achieved.”
Congratulations to Pip on her remarkable success. We look forward to following her exciting journey in the sport.
