Wednesday 21st May saw the annual Reading Athletics Town Championships held at Bracknell Athletics Track and we’re delighted that there were so many medals won by Leighton Park students.
George (800m) and Laurie (Discus) came first in their Inter Boys events and there were further medals for Harry K (long jump), Harry A (100m), Theo (javelin), Nihal (200m), Jack (shot) and Faris (400m). In the Junior Boys the standout performance was from Tom who came 3rd in the 800m with credible performances from Theo (200m) and Yezen (100m). In the U13 Boys the standout performance was from Oscar who came 3rd in the 150m final and Orlando who was 3rd in the shot put.
Director of Sport, Simon Bradbury, commented, “The standard of athletics at Leighton Park is really good and we always have students that go on further to represent Reading at the Berkshire Schools’ County Championships in June and sometimes even further for English Schools. I’m particularly proud of the Year 10s who took part yesterday because out of our competitors in the Inter Boys, eight of them came away with medals, which is great!”
Due to the current renovation works taking place at Palmer Park the Reading Town Athletics Championship for girls is being held on Friday 23rd May at an alternative venue. We’re looking forward to updating you on their sporting successes next week!
