Leighton Park’s Large Ensembles Concert on Wednesday 8th October was a vibrant celebration of musical variety, talent and practice showcasing the orchestra, senior choir, wind, brass and string groups in a richly diverse programme.
The evening opened with the Orchestra bringing a vibrant Spanish flair to the stage with ‘Andalucia’ followed by Winds, Senior Choir and LP Brass performing Tchaikovsky, Gershwin, the finale of Hamilton the Musical and other compositions.
The Friends of Leighton Park provided refreshments in the Interval before returning to a fabulous second half.
The String Ensemble delighted with the Allegro from Handel’s Concerto Grosso, Op. 6, No. 5, highlighting the contrast between soloists and full ensemble with polished precision. The Senior Choir returned with a joyful pairing of ABBA’s I Have a Dream and Coldplay’s Viva La Vida, blending pop familiarity with choral sophistication. Ending the evening, the Orchestra showed fantastic range, from lyrical and haunting to rhythmic and energetic with variations of the Korean folk song ‘Arirang’.
Current parent, Amos, shared his thoughts on the evening, commenting: “I’m loving it. I’m very impressed they’re able to do this much in only like the third or fourth week of term, they’re doing brilliantly.”
Congratulations to all our performers on a wonderful concert! Music at Leighton Park is for everyone, whether you’re just beginning to learn an instrument, already an accomplished musician, or simply enjoy listening and being part of the experience. We look forward to welcoming you to our next event, the Soloists’ Concert, on Wednesday 5th November.
