The annual Christmas Concert was an aural extravaganza this year with stellar performances by our talented musicians. The programme offered a variety of festive tunes with traditional pieces such as the Orchestra’s ‘A Holst Christmas’ through to Slade’s ‘Merry Christmas Everyone’ by the Rock School. There were popular carols together with more contemporary favourites and a range of instruments including bassoon, guitar and violin alongside the ensemble groups for brass, strings, bassoon and voice. The Senior Choir and Fryer Voices both delivered memorable performances and the highlight for many was the audience participation ‘Twelve Days of Christmas’ complete with the reminder boards and the movements.
Rosemary Scales, Director of Music, commented, “It was such a delight to be able to welcome back, in person, our LP community to join us in our festive celebrations this year. It was wonderful to see the smiles on everybody’s faces and to hear such a celebration of wonderful musical talent amongst our fantastic students. For many, Christmas really feels like it is almost with us when the sounds of Star Carol and Christmas Festival ring out in the Main Hall! Well done to the musicians who have worked so hard to produce such high quality performances for all to enjoy.”
The concert was followed a few days later by a moving Christmas Evening Meeting which combines elements of a carol service with a Quaker meeting alternating silence with readings, poetry and peaceful music. Sunday 11th December welcomed the community back to Main Hall for the first of these events in three years. The evening concluded with carol singing around the piano and delicious refreshments including scrumptious mince pies.
