Our dancers are going from strength to strength with two talented students achieving awards in ballroom and in theatrical performance in the last week.
Amy (Year 11) competed at her first ballroom competition on Sunday 6th October winning 1st place for her individual Rumba and couples Jive and second for her individual Quick Step and couples Tango. Amy’s successes secure her place in the Nationals in Blackpool in July which she is very much looking forward to!
On the same date, Hoi Kiu (Year 11) achieved a place in the NATD Theatrical Scholarship Finals 2024 with her entry in the Senior Ballet Category.
Following the heats that took place on 30th June in Kent for the London Area, Hoi Kiu competed against other dancers who had been selected to go through to the finals from the other areas (London, North Midlands, South West and Northern). She performed a ballet solo, watched by the crowds and was awarded a trophy for her participation in this event, where the standard of dance is extremely high.
Anja Nash, NATD Dance Lead at Leighton Park commented: “We are very proud of her achievements. Well done to Hoi Kiu for her continued enthusiasm to build her dance knowledge and abilities and we look forward to seeing what is to come as Hoi Kiu also continues to study other dance styles that she is also becoming more confident with.”
Leighton Park offers the NATD Contemporary Dance Grades (National Association of Teachers of Dancing). We have introduced the next grade ‘Advanced’ this year, alongside Grade 5, Grade 6 and Intermediate. The classes run weekly, working towards the exam in June. The Contemporary Dance Grades are an extremely valuable experience for dancers in gaining further confidence, technique, building movement vocabulary and learning skills in choreographing, enabling students to let their creativity run free and to work effectively with other dancers.
