Netballers Score at Nationals!

It has been another exciting and busy netball season with the U14, U16 and U18 netball teams representing Leighton Park at the ISA National Netball tournaments held at Nottingham University.

The U14s were Captained by Ava McN, who was a key member of the team, the students who made up this team were; Ava M, Alice M, Jasmine T, Tyler H, Mia B-F, Ruby H, Emily M, Sophia P-S and Emily W. They progressed throughout the tournament to achieve a bronze medal in the Shield Competition.

The U16 netball team were Captained by Taya Piper, who was a strong player in the circle defensive, the team was made up of the following students; Taya P, Ruby B, Anna B, Rebecca M, Charlotte C, Diana D-L-M, Savanna G, Lily M, Cali W. The U16 team achieved a bronze medal in the Shield tournament.

The U18s were Captained by Anna B and Vice Captain Izzy J. The students had a tough pool grouping in the morning, however they lifted their spirits and team motivation to come away with a gold medal in the Shield competition. The team consisted of; Anna B, Izzy J, Ellie C, Connie S, Tilly H, Taya P, Tilly T, Emma K, Diana D-L-M and Ruby B.

Anna (U18s Captain) reflected “I am extremely proud of how far we have come as a netball team over the season; we are looking forward to competing and representing Leighton Park on the Marbella Netball and Hockey Tour in July this summer!”

Izzy (U18s Vice-Captain) added, “We really showed an improvement on the finals tournament; we came together as one team and took the win against Salesian and Reddam, this sets us up well for our Tuesday Night Under the Lights Netball rival match against St Joseph’s College”.

Zoe Macpherson, Head of Netball commented, “The students have shown their resilience throughout the league matches and tournaments. The programme could not be run without the students’ dedication and the coaches’ support from Alice and Becky. We will continue with this motivation toward the Marbella Hockey and Netball Tour in the Summer Term 2023”.
