New House Charity Leaders

This week the Houses have chosen their Charity and Outreach Leaders to be responsible for organising the fundraising efforts of each House. The four new Houses each have a focus on making a difference to the local community and these new champions, who have volunteered for their roles, will be leading their House’s initiatives over the next academic year.

Natasha Coccia, Assistant Head (Outreach and Partnerships), explained, “What we want to do is to have student led charity fundraising and the best thing to do is for each House to be linked to a local charity in Reading so they can actually have a deep and meaningful relationship with them. They can come into Collects, they can get to know our students. And there is a little bit of a competitive element as well between the Houses so that when they are coming up with events and ideas, they can make sure they are getting the most money for their chosen charity.”

Tubman co-representative, Erin (Lower Sixth) commented, “I think it’s really important to help others and as there are going to be four charities fundraising I wanted to be a part of it to help the community.” Fellow Tubman volunteer, Sofia added, “I don’t really know what happens behind the scene, so I wanted to get a bit more involved in actually helping out and choosing the charities.”

Alex (Lower Sixth) Bensi Enchill’s new charity leader, reflected, “I just wanted to become more involved in my School and with the new House Charities. I’m not very sporty so I thought this is something I can do and would be interested in doing because I think charities are really quite important.”

The two representatives from Cadbury House agreed:

“I wanted to volunteer because I wanted to get involved with the outreach programmes that the School has and to involve all of our students in the new House systems because it can involve a lot of students and make a big difference.” said Jaia, with Millie continuing, “It is a really interesting opportunity to create enthusiasm and engagement with all the year groups within the Houses.”

Virat (Year 7), the youngest of the new leaders, was enthusiastic about the chance to get involved, “As I’m one of the youngest year groups in the school, year 7, most people think that we can’t do big things; and I guess I just want to prove them wrong.”

We very much look forward to seeing how the four Houses can make a difference for our local charities and wish the new leaders all the best for their fundraising efforts.
