New Tech for a New Year

The new school year got off to a tech-tastic start with new touch screen Chromebooks for our incoming Year 7s and upgrades for our Year 8s ensuring everyone is working consistently across the Lower School. The senior years, 9 to 11, are also continuing to enjoy the benefits of Chromebooks with access to  learning resources, prep and communication with teachers and other class members through Google Classroom. The School found the familiarity of online learning for staff and students across the community a huge benefit throughout lockdown as the devices and educational platforms were already in place for the months of pandemic home school. The addition of live Google Meets video lessons to support the full six period daily timetable complemented our suite of educational tools and enabled live interaction during the lessons between teachers and students.

Parents are not being left behind as we move into the Autumn Term and introduce ‘My School Portal’ (MSP) to our community. This online platform offers a secure, web-based communication and school management package providing parents and guardians  secure, 24-hour access to personalised data for their children. From one intuitive, simple to use dashboard, parents can access emails, attendance, timetables, co-curricular and sports fixtures and school information such as term dates, from their phone, tablet or desktop devices.

Matt Cowen, Leighton Park’s Director of IT, enthused: “MSP will provide parents with access to safe and secure information about their children as well as give a ‘single pane of glass’ view with just one login. MSP is 24/7 and will work around our families’ busy schedules, even after the school day has finished, delivering the information that they need.”

Adrian Brown, Director of My School Portal added: “My School Portal has been designed to ease communication between teachers, parents and students. It also provides crucial safeguards around the processing and protection of personal data, which is one of the biggest concerns that schools face today.”

The School’s Bursar, Keith Eldridge, who has responsibility for the School’s investment in its infrastructure and IT, commented, “We are pleased to be streamlining communications between the School and our parents/guardians by bringing information and services together into one digital location. This term we will also be moving to a new sector leading management information system for student records called iSAMs. This will support administration and support the continuous development of our educational offering.”
