Ever thought you might like an adopt an ancient Egyptian mummy?
Of course you haven’t. It’s not possible. Until now, anyway! Old Leightonian Lawrence, a bio-archaeologist and a Lecturer at University of London’s Birkbeck College.Dr Lawrence Owens (1992) is directing an archaeological dig in Egypt and trying to raise funds to rescue hundreds of skeletons and mummies between 5000 and 2000 years old. He is crowdfunding it, so if you would like to be involved – and there are incentives – just follow this link. Contact Lawrence through the website if you have any questions.”
Lawrence writes “Kafr Hassan Dawood (KHD) is one of the most important ancient sites in Egypt, and contains hundreds of burials from the earliest period of Egyptian history, right the way through to the Romans. Only a portion of the original site is left, but is now being encroached upon by rising water levels and building works; the ancient mummies and skeletons will be destroyed unless we act now. The Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA) has given us permission to rescue what we can while we can. This is our last chance to rescue vital data from the site, so we have to take urgent action.”
