Leighton Park School is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and diverse community where every individual is valued for who they are. In our commitment to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), we offer SAGE (Sexuality and Gender Equality) Club, as one of over 90 hobbies in our co-curricular programme. Established in 2020, by our freshly appointed Diversity and Inclusion Officer, the SAGE club has become a beacon of support, education and acceptance for students who either identify with the LGBTQIA+ community or are keen to learn more. It stands as a testament to our Quaker values of peace, respect and equality, reaffirming and exemplifying that love and respect lie at the heart of our School. The SAGE Club provides a safe and welcoming space offering support for students who may be exploring their identity, seeking answers to their questions, or simply looking to connect with like-minded individuals. Importantly, it is also open to allies who wish to contribute to our broader school-wide Diversity, Inclusion and Equity programme.
Leighton Park has chosen the Global Equality Collective (GEC) as the platform that is the home of official DEI learning for the School. The GEC draws together experts in every area of diversity, equity, inclusion and justice (DEIJ) to provide short courses and webinars in respective topics. It represents the very best in DEI learning, and a meeting between educators and industry professionals. Topics include unconscious bias, racism, LGBTQIA+ and much more!
Further to this training, the GEC allows us to conduct both staff and student anonymous audits, producing an in-depth report that will be used by the DEI Forum at LP to drive impactful change for the LP community. We continuously strive to enhance our happy and safe environment for every student, staff members and parents at Leighton Park. It is through this commitment to our values and morals that we create a strong School community built on trust, kindness and inclusion.
