Overcoming Adversity

Unfortunately the challenges did not stop there as a member of the group George, suffered a fall on a rock and cut his head. As the group had already set off on their own, the group were able to put their First Aid skills into practice and George bravely continued.

Staff were impressed by the resilience the group showed, particularly with Nikolay who used walking poles and some considerable determination in order to power through the discomfort from a recent leg operation and George, who encountered a rock en route and was treated to some of his group’s first aid skills; Thank goodness for the pre expedition training!

Saturday night brought some poorly timed rain, just as the group had put their tents up, but smiles and positivity continued as the students began to cook in the rain. Later in the evening a selection of wildlife joined the group, with owls hooting all night and possible suggestions of a fox and owl joining in the cacophony too!

The Bronze D of E students will undertake their actual expedition challenge next month around Bradfield. D of E Co-ordinator, Ann Munday commented, “We are sure they will do very well, whatever is thrown at them!”
