Platinum Entertainment as LP Musicians Support Katesgrove Primary’s Jubilee!

Superb performances from our Year 8 oboe, violin, piano and clarinet players helped the Jubilee celebrations at Katesgrove Primary School sound fabulous as pupils partied for the Platinum Jubilee on the last day of half term! The link was made at the Partnerships Dinner on 6th May by Lara Rawlins, Assistant Director of Music. “It is important that our students are given the opportunity to perform to others outside of the LP community as this widens their audience and responsibility as a musician. If this also means they can inspire younger students to be future musicians, then all the better!” smiled Lara.

Each gifted musician shared a short recital with the students from KS1 and KS2 at the local primary based in the centre of Reading and were excited both to be part of the national celebrations and to provide support within the local community by doing something they loved. Using the assembly format, Leighton Park students performed solos one after another to the younger pupils.

“I feel like the opportunity we had to perform at Katesgrove was very valuable, especially as it has helped me build up the confidence to perform in other situations like the upcoming Soloists Concert.” Commented pianist Leo, “I played some of my original pieces, which was strange, as I was the only one without any sheet music to guide me if something went wrong. Overall, I found it as a very good opportunity to nourish as a musician and also have some fun performing at a celebration.”

Leonie played two out of seven of the ‘Wicked Reels’ on her violin and then the ever popular ‘Hedwig’s Theme’ from Harry Potter.” It felt great to be part of the celebrations, and to perform in front of people without worrying too much, as they were young, and it also felt important to share how classical music can be such an important part of this modern day.” She reflected.

“I loved playing at Katesgrove it was a privilege to share my love of music with the students there and I think it’s really important because maybe they could find their next achievement in playing an instrument. Celebrating the jubilee has been a huge thing for my family since I was little so it was great to watch the younger students enjoying it like I did at that age.” enthused Sophie, who plays the oboe.
