Playing a Big Part in Partnerships Week

It’s the end of the Independent Schools Council (ISC) Partnerships Week today, an area of School life that we truly value at Leighton Park.

Service to others is an important aspect of the approach we use to foster our Quaker values within and beyond the School community, building respect, exercising integrity and appreciating equality in a practical way. We have an extensive partnerships programme which has been embedded for the last four years and its evolution has been a great source of support to many people in the communities around us.

This week our students have been enthusiastically reaching out to pupils in other schools to support their initiatives and provide opportunities that make a difference to students’ learning outcomes. Our Sixth Formers have delivered one-to-one reading support across four primary schools in Whitley, one of Reading’s areas most in need. Our peripatetic Music teachers have provided clarinet and cello lessons for pupils at Katesgrove Primary and Southcote Primary through our Kennet Federation partnership. Secondary school, Blessed Hugh Farringdon, joined us remotely for Colet Maths Mentoring online led by our Year 11s, and in person for the Senior Debate Club event in Peckover Hall on Tuesday, directed by Sixth Formers.

Educational partnerships aside there has been relationship building through community carols as the chamber choir visited Wellington Farm Shop for a festive sing along on Thursday and more singing, this time in aid of the British Red Cross Humanitarian Aid, took place on Friday.

Linking up with female empowerment charity, The Female Lead, Leighton Park is one of ten schools with a dedicated co-curricular society partnering with an organisation to formally strengthen the confidence and skillsets of our girls. This new partnership is an exciting development for the School and we are looking forward to the first in-person event in London in March 2024.
