On Tuesday 19th October, we welcomed four eager groups of Year 5 pupils from local schools to take to Ten-Acre Field and be coached by our super Sports Department.
Leading the fun filled masterclass, Head of Rugby, Andy Gallacher, PE and Games Teacher, Scott Winton and our CTEC Sports Leaders, put the keen athletes through their paces with games of kick tennis, an obstacle course, tackling training and a mini-game to finish.
“It was very fun and muddy.” reported Otto from Caversham Prep following the morning. His teacher, Jess Potter, enthused “The children have not stopped talking about it all afternoon! They have had the best morning! They are leaving buzzing about rugby, full of smiles and planning to join clubs. The confidence and enthusiasm are everything.”
She continued “Not only did they love it, but they found your students so fun and have already expressed admiration for them. Thank you for today, especially your older students – they are a credit to themselves and the school.”
Now well practiced in delivering top-class sporting events through their CTEC in Sports Leadership, the group enjoyed showing Farley Hill, Whitley Park, St Teresa’s and Caversham Prep the ropes. Curtis from Whitley Park commented his favourite part of the day was “with James when we learnt the kicking.” Freya from St Teresa’s echoed, “It was amazing, we did kick tennis and I really enjoyed the obstacle course!”
