Showing Appreciation on Valentine’s Day

This Valentine’s Day, Leighton Park felt the love as students and staff showed their appreciation for friends and colleagues with roses and handwritten messages facilitated through Sixth Form charity group Amicus.

Amicus member, Mariyam in the Lower Sixth commented, “We collect money for charity, and we help charities from the local area of Reading. We thought it would be a nice idea to sell roses for Valentine’s Day so we basically collected Google Forms where people could order roses and now, we’re giving them out to the people.” Mariyam added, “We had around 190 responses, so we have to hand out a lot of roses today! I think it’s been very successful; I wasn’t expecting it to be this successful.” The day single-handedly raised £419 for the chosen charity.

Smiles could be seen all round in Oakview as students were handed their tokens of appreciation and watched others faces light up. Away from the hustle and bustle, in the Library the team offered a ‘Blind Date with a Book’. Wrapped in brown paper and complete with ribbon, heart, and a short synopsis, students took their picks from the shelf.

Another group of Lower Sixth students, collectively called ‘Ethicard’, used their Ethical Enterprise hobby to handcraft cards for the occasion. All profits have since been donated to the Children’s Heart Federation.
