At Leighton Park we are incredibly fortunate to have several partnerships with esteemed global companies that enrich our students’ knowledge and educational journey within and beyond the classroom. Amongst these valuable partnerships is our relationship with Sontronics microphones and the Sontronics Education Partnership Programme.
On Wednesday 27th September Sontronics delivered a workshop for our music students giving them hands on access to cutting-edge microphones and audio equipment. This unique collaboration equipped the students with practical skills and introduced them to new technology. They learned about the intricacies of sound and recording, mic-ing techniques, microphone design and recording technology.
Some of the students performed a variety of instruments including piano, guitar and vocals, so that Sontronics could demonstrate the art of microphone set up, ensuring the mics were in the optimal position to achieve the best sound. As well as this, students were given a comprehensive breakdown of microphone types and their characteristics, facilitating comparisons of sound quality during playbacks of the students’ instruments from the School’s Live Lounge. Inspired by the educational visit, Daniel (Year 10) enthused “I have never really tried to record music before but after the workshop it is something I will definitely try!”
Trevor, who ran the Sontronics workshop, reflected “It’s just been brilliant, I think the whole spirit of this school is something quite unique and it’s a privilege to be here”.
