Sport Switch Up

Over the past fortnight, our senior girls and boys have traded places for a run of coaching in Rugby and Hockey respectively. Whilst the girls have been refining their agility on top field, the boys have got to grips with Hockey on the Astro.

Put to the test on Monday 30th November and cheered on by a supportive crowd of peers, the girls’ proved that they had stamina and skill when they competed in a mixed Rugby match that also involved staff.

Jez Belas, Director of Sport, PE and Wellness, praised “Massive well done to all the students who played touch rugby. It was great fun and a sport we are looking to develop here at LP. Loads of energy, skill and teamwork on show! Girls rugby fixtures surely in the future…”

Following the competitive match, on Wednesday 2nd December, players took to the Astro for a mixed 7-a-side game of Hockey.

Head of Hockey, Matt Richards, commented “Everyone really bought into the spirit of trying a new sport. Both groups of girls and boys really showed off some of their new skills learnt over the past two weeks. Games were played with great enthusiasm and determination. Some of the new boy hockey players really gave the more experienced hockey girls a run for their money, whilst the girls matched up to the extra physicality that the boys introduced.”

Jez continued “The feedback has been hugely positive, and the emphasis was on fun, to round off this particularly mad term.”

On Monday 14th December a Girls v Boys 11-a-side Hockey match will round off the fixtures.
