Sports Scholars Up Their Game!

On Thursday 21st September, Leighton Parks Sports scholars enjoyed their first trip of the new academic year to Go Perform, a state-of-the-art sports injury and human performance centre. The School has had a longstanding partnership with Go Perform, which allows our Sports scholars to access the facilities and the expertise of the staff three times a year. Each scholar has a specific programme designed to support their sporting needs and an allocated member of the PE Department as a mentor.

The scholars listened to a seminar delivered by Physiotherapist, Sarah and Head of Performance, Tristan on the importance of recovery and nutrition.  Students were taught about the different methods of recovery across a spectrum ranging from the basic methods accessible to all to the elite performers’ advanced levels of recovery.  Scholars were also shown the importance of the food they put into their bodies and when they should consume it. Charlotte (Lower Sixth) who is a talented rugby player expressed: “I loved the seminar at Go Perform! I expanded my knowledge on the importance of recovery. I was also given new ideas on how to support my mental and physical health before and after training. Overall, I thought it was a wonderful experience and a great way to start of the year as a Sports scholar!”

Director of Sport, Simon Bradbury, commented “It is always great to start the sports scholars experience with a seminar from the staff at Go Perform, not only because of the quality of the seminar and the knowledge that they impart on our scholars, but also because of the relationship we have with Go Perform and our awareness that our scholars will be working closely with Sarah throughout the year.”

At Leighton Park, Sport scholarships are available for applicants seeking entry into Year 7, Year 9 and Sixth Form. The scholarship offers up to 30% remission of the Day fee; access to in-depth feedback from professionals -in order to improve their performances; Sport Science support packages with Go Perform and the Advanced Performer programme, which provides bespoke strength and conditioning, exclusive trips and monthly seminars as well as tracking of fitness and wellness data.
