The PSC are a dedicated bunch and have once again galvanised our parents and staff into charitable action in support of Whitley Community Development Association (Whitley CDA) and a number of their regular visitors.
Whitley CDA have co-ordinated a list of people in need in to share with the PSC and members of the school community who feel able to contribute have donated Christmas gifts for a family or individual who might otherwise not receive any festive presents.
Chair of the PSC, Jo Adey, commented: “I think this is my favourite event that we do each year. It is so lovely that we are able to spread some goodwill into the wider community and it is always a touching moment when we put the list together and see just how little some people have. It’s a great leveller. I am always so impressed at how the community responds. This year for the first time we’ve added financial donations and we’ve had an amazing response with £260 of donations which will make an enormous difference to Whitley; they have no idea it’s coming! And I’d like to thank our whole community.”
“I think it’s important because Many people don’t have the opportunities that we have and even if we have the slightest chance or a little bit of extra money we could use to help then why shouldn’t we?” reflected Maisie (Year 9)
“I think it’s important because some people don’t get as much as we do and we are very fortunate to get what we get but it’s not like that for some people so it’s good to give.” Added Josh (Year 7)
Luke Walters, Head, enthused: “So much of being in a school like this is the level of privilege and it’s so important that we contribute back to our local community. It’s part of our Quaker values, it’s part of the ethos of the school, and to make sure that we are embedded in this area and that we are doing things for those around us and we are contributing to the world in positive ways. It’s part it’s about us being positive changemakers.”
