Whilst the School rests over Long Leave, the usually bustling Oakview Restaurant became a tranquil exhibition space for Reading’s annual Charity Art Fair, over the Halloween weekend.
On Friday 29th October, a beautiful selection of colourful, inspired, adroit and avant-garde artwork was unveiled for a preview evening and drinks reception. As organised by the Rotary Club of Maiden Erlegh, the event is proud to this year be supporting the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Staff Wellness Centre.
While Head of Art, Mark Wood, and EAL teacher and part time artist, Tom Cartmill, took seats on the judging panel alongside Jenny Halstead, some of our own student artists exhibited their work.
Throughout Saturday and Sunday, a steady turn out of local art lovers browsed and bought the range of paintings, ceramics and sculptures on display.
No stranger to community-centred projects, before taking up the role of Head of Art at the School, Mark has run mosaic workshops and commissioned for an art charity in Nepal. Most recently, he has quite literally been creating the building blocks for a series of creative climate activism classes, aimed at local primary school pupils. It is hoped that the outcome from these will be both awareness and a giant jigsaw installation entitled ‘Together for our Planet’.
