Taekwon-Do expert and Year 11 boarder, Taya, achieved an incredible second place in her Sparring Youth u18 category at the European Taekwon-Do Championships over Easter.
Travelling to Jesolo, Italy for the event, Taya was part of the GB team which overall placed 5th by the end of the competition against 37 other countries. There were five days of competition, an opening and closing ceremony and of course a big party on the last night celebrating all the competitor’s achievements, including Taya’s!
“It was an amazing experience.” She enthused, “I loved the atmosphere when people were competing. All the different countries were chanting for their own.”
Taya is studying the Pre-Sixth course at Leighton Park which enables her to focus on an intense programme of five GCSEs in one year. Although the workload is steady, Taya manages to fit in time for training and competitions as Taekwon-Do is such an important aspect of life. The School are able to support Taya’s ambitions through excellent pastoral care in the boarding house and through the PE Department which runs an Advanced Performer Programme (APP) for elite athletes.
