The Acorn Theatre Company Perform at the ISA Drama Competition

Since September, the Acorn Theatre Company has been rehearsing The Tempest by William Shakespeare. An invitation to the ISA Drama Competition on Tuesday 14^th March, was the perfect opportunity to showcase their work alongside nine other schools.

“We did a 30-minute version of Shakespeare’s, The Tempest which can be difficult to understand let alone perform! We were so impressed with the commitment from students since September that have come together as an ensemble to perform with one other and bond as a company. It was brilliant to see the students performing on the big stage to not only get the experience in a live theatre environment outside of LP but to present all their hard work to parents, judges, and other schools.” commented Drama Teacher, Lauren Brandwood.

Theatre Graduate, Lucy Chapman, continued “It was clear to see the professionalism of these young actors in a large theatre space. It can be quite intimidating getting up on stage in front of a big audience at such a young age but we’re so proud of every student who took part and look forward to the results of the competition in May.”

Isabelle in Year 7 who performed the character of Ferdinand, enthused, “Lauren and Lucy did a really good job of making it both a good performance but also really fun.” Natalia added, “At first, I was really nervous, but when I started performing it was really fun.”

Max reflected, “I played Prospero and took ages to learn my lines, but it was worth it in the end when we performed it. We worked on it since September, and it almost felt like we were in a movie rehearsing it and it was a great experience going to the theatre and doing it.”
