Main Hall was packed on Wednesday 1st May as the annual Movies and Musicals Concert took to the stage. Our talented musicians delivered a wonderful showcase of hits to an appreciative audience. With 39 numbers on the programme, it was a bumper concert featuring favourites from familiar shows as well as some lesser known pieces performed with aplomb. Friends of Leighton Park Music were also popular, providing refreshments before the show and during the interval, when the crowd was entertained by a cabaret duet in the Upper Foyer by Freddie (Lower Sixth) on piano and Bella (Lower Sixth) on bass.
There were some memorable moments as the singers also became dancers during Senior Choir’s choral highlights in the second half complete with maracas, some of their moves perhaps inspired by the energetic LP Treblemakers (Years 7 and 8 (with ‘And You Don’t Even Know It’ from ‘Everybody’s talking about Jamie’. The Barbie mash up band donned their tropical costumes with hats and colourful leis as they embraced their performance whilst there were a plethora of soloists, duets and ensembles knocking out a series of fabulous tunes!
Music is a real strength of the school with over 50% of students learning at least one instrument and 27 peripatetic music teachers providing lessons in instruments from the accordian and the euphonium to the ever popular piano and violin. The chamber choir was celebrated by ISA Arts for the fourth year running in the 2024 A Cappella competition. A new initiative exploring Music and Wellbeing has been trialled this academic year inspired by our Music Education Partner, Yamaha, for whom we are a flagship partner. Other musical industry partnerships include Sontronics and Steinberg.
