Students were really challenged by a dance masterclass with Bethan Ireland on Saturday 9th March which introduced them to release technique in contemporary dance.
“Dancing is poetry of the foot.” – John Dryden
For some students this was the first time they had learnt floor work and they approached this challenge with such positivity. They soon became familiar with the idea of giving weight into the hands in order to achieve smooth entrances and exits using the floor. Soon students were learning forward shoulder rolls and by the end of the class students were able to perform a short piece which incorporated adage, allegro and whole ensemble movement.
“I really like learning contemporary dance, it is so much fun.” Stephanie
‘“It was really fun to learn a new technique.” Laurel
“I really enjoyed it, it really helped me with my core strength.’’ Sterling
“I got to find out what contemporary dance is about.’” Olga
“I have learnt how dynamics are really important when you dance and that emotion is key to performance.” Freya
