Toys and Teens Pick Up!

Many thanks to everyone in the School community who kindly donated to the Toys and Teens appeal. The volunteers from Reading Family Aid, Frank, Colston and Cian, who came to collect the gifts were very pleased to take the presents on to the next phase of their journey.

The donations go to a large hall for sorting by age and then are picked according to lists provided by social services for particular facilities. Once bagged and boxed the pressies travel to distribution centres such as schools and community centres so that the social workers can collect them from there for delivery to the children.

Last year 24,000 presents were collected and given out to 3,001 children and the charity are expecting a similar level of need this year. Every gift that the School donates makes a big difference to a child.

Elena (Upper Sixth) who is a member of the School’s charity group, Amicus, who have co-ordinated the appeal across Leighton Park enthused, “I think it’s really impressive, I think it shows how much people care about other people having the same opportunity at Christmas as we have.”

Cian from Reading Family Aid commented: “Having good quality stuff makes such a difference. We delivered to Berkshire Womens’ Aid just now. There are so many people there, transient people, and their children are there and they would have nothing at Christmas if it wasn’t for Leighton Park and your parents. Schools like this are the life blood of this, because it’s a volume business, and you are so generous; it makes such a difference.”
