Leighton Park drama enthusiasts embarked on an enriching trip to the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre on Wednesday 28th February. They were treated to a captivating performance of ‘Metamorphosis’ by Franz Kafka, adapted by Lemn Sissay OBE and directed by Scott Graham.
The play, which follows the transformative journey of Gregor Samsa, is creative production by drama company ‘The Frantic Assembly’, whose artistic director, Scott Graham, articulated their ambition for brave and bold theatre. He expresses on their website that “Our ambition is that we continue to learn and remain committed to making brave and bold theatre. It is about the ethos of collaboration, of empowerment, of that constant desire to improve. It is about telling stories in a voice we don’t always hear and about finding talent in places we don’t always look”.
The alignment of Leighton Park’s own ethos which aims to nurture and celebrate individual talents, in whatever direction they might lie, is equally aligned with Frantic Assembly’s ethos of collaboration and the desire to improve. A fact that was not lost on the students.
The production was chosen by Head of Drama, Peter Scoggins, with the intention to progress learning in GCSE Drama and A Level Theatre Studies. It served as a valuable opportunity for students to immerse themselves in exceptional theatrical work whilst nurturing their passion for drama.
