In May we welcomed Year 10 students from Crosfields School, Abbot’s Hill School and Maiden Erlegh Chiltern Edge for a taste of our International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Each group experienced three academic IB subjects, a tour of the new Grove Sixth Form Centre and a chance to ask questions of our Director of IB, Kees Luteijn. The academic sessions included Theory of Knowledge, a core IB topic which seeks to explore how we know what we know, the IB Science module’s collaborative group project, and the Visual Arts component in the Artroom.
Theory of Knowledge was a new subject for all our visitors as they explored the presentation of information with specific reference to the London Underground. Gaia (Abbot’s Hill) perceptively observed “Things are now always how they seem.”. Classmate Amber agreed, commenting that she had learned “to question the things around you.” Zara was interested. in “the idea of creativity that comes with the programme”.
Richard Ebbage, Deputy Head – Academic (Seniors) at Crosfields School, brought his group along for “a deeper understanding of what is on offer to them at Sixth Form” and felt the afternoon was very successful in achieving his aims. Mayessa Hamdan, Head of PER and PDE at Abbots’ Hill, reflected “Students were engaged, the sessions were the perfect length and students have benefitted from exposure to different means of study.”
