Winning on the Water!
We are proud to have two very impressive young rowers as part of our school community and to watch their ongoing achievements on the water as the season progresses.
Jemima (Year 10) has only be rowing for around a year having joined Henley Rowing Club after a holiday camp experience. Already this year Jemima has excelled in the J15 category competing as a 4 and an 8 in a number of races across the country. In the London Schools Head race, Jemima’s 8 won nationally for the J15 category. In Nottingham‘s Junior Inter Regional Regatta (JIRR) her 4 won against all other British river regions for the J15 category. At Dorney Lake‘s Wallingford Regatta, Jemima rowed up a year in the J16 category in an 8 and won the category, despite half the boat being J15s and finally in the Oarsport Head Race Jemima rowed in a quad coming 2nd out of 25 other crews for J15.
Not to be overtaken, Zak (Year 11) has had an equally astounding success rate taking part in the final stage of Under 19 GB Rowing trials at the end of April. Zak came 28th out of 45 rowers, which is amazing considering he was one of only two 16 year olds who qualified in this final selection stage and was rowing against 17, 18 and 19 year olds who are the top juniors in the country! He has attracted a lot of attention from professional coaches this year and is now officially classed as being on the ‘Olympic pathway’ at GB Rowing. Zak is currently hoping to be selected for the GB vs France race for 16 year olds.
