Woodley Festival Success!

Three Leighton Park Music Scholars have topped the charts at this year’s Woodley Festival of Music and Arts, securing fabulous successes in Woodwind and Strings. Violinist Eva won first place in the U13 Strings Solo, Alice came second in the U13 Recital with her performance on the bassoon and Sophie not only won the U13 Woodwind class but was also awarded The Hook Trophy for Best Overall Performance in Woodwind, in the U11 and U13 categories.

Director of Music, Rosemary Scales, commented, “I am absolutely delighted will the way our Year 8 Scholars have performed at this event. We are all very proud of all they have achieved.”

“We did lots of practising of the pieces I was going to perform and also practising with the accompanist so that it would not be strange on the day.” said Eva, “It was the first time I’d won an award! I performed in the festival once when I was 10 and then I did it in Covid.”

Sophie had also had some festival experience before and added, “It felt nice to be back because I live in Woodley so I’ve been doing it for a few years now. When it was online it was very different. It was a refreshing memory for me to perform in the theatre! I went in and we all practised with the accompanist. It was really nice to perform in a big open space.”

Alice added, “The day before the competition, I did a run through with my accompanist Sally. It was nice because it was the first time for me that I’d done a live concert with the bassoon for ages and ages!”
