Celebrating World Book Day at Leighton Park School is vital to ensuring students are encouraged to enjoy reading and see it as a tool for relaxing, diving into a different world and inspiring a love of reading.
This year, our librarians Grace and Peter, set up a fabulous book shop consisting of hundreds of books, exploring fiction, non-fiction and a stand dedicated to teacher recommendations.
Each student received a £1 book token to either exchange for a £1 book or to take the amount off their total purchase. The shop has been a huge success with all of our students, with many discovering exciting new genres and authors to explore!
Our Oakview restaurant truly brought the magic of World Book Day to life. Inspired by our Head Chef’s favorite children’s book, ‘The Selfish Crocodile’, the catering team crafted an extraordinary 3D crocodile cake that captured everyone’s imagination. Students and staff alike were blown away, not just by its visual extravagance but the delicious flavors too. The atmosphere was filled with excitement, as the spirit of storytelling and fun connected our school community with this World Book Day treat! See photos here.
World Book Day celebrates the fun of reading and promotes reading for pleasure. Our brand new whole School Library facilitates this initiative all year round, encouraging students to find new genres and authors as well as offering a quiet space for study and personal reading. Our book clubs that span across all year groups also allows students to join a society for a friendly chat about anything to do with books and reading. Offering a space to recommend favourites, learn about new titles, expand knowledge.
