Wreaths from the Houses for the Doors

The LP wreath making this year saw the creation of 12 fantastic seasonal decorations which we are looking forward to adorning our buildings as the end of term approaches. This is the third year we have made our own wreaths on the Park and the new twist to the tradition is that the activity has become the latest in a series of hotly contested House competitions.

Organiser and eco-warrior Jo Toovey was delighted with the standard of the entries and the efforts that each House had made to create their wreaths. “I really wanted to show our students how easy it is to make something beautiful and festive that is also sustainable and free!” Jo enthused.

The wreaths were entered in three categories, Lower School (Year 7 and 8), Junior School (Years 9 and 10) and Senior School (Years 11-Upper Sixth) and were scored out of ten against five categories; Sustainability; originality and creativity; panache and skill; festivity; colour and smell.

The guest judges were armed with a google form and all the wreaths were anonymously numbered to prevent any House bias. Now the totals have been added up the judging team were pleased to announce:

1st place wreath = Fox House Senior, (wreath no. 7) with 189 points

2nd place wreath = Fox House Juniors, (wreath no.6) with 179 points

3rd place wreath = Cadbury House Juniors (wreath no.13) with 165 points

The overall totals for wreaths across the Houses were:

Fox House = 524 points

Cadbury House = 470 points

Bentsi-Enchill House = 442 points

Tubman House = 421 points

Judge Keith Eldridge, Bursar, reflected “This is absolutely in line with our Quaker values as we are able to involve all members of our community in a sustainable activity for their Houses.”  Fellow judge, Geri Baker, Alumni Relations Assistant, added, “It’s great to be able to use the natural resources from around the park to create something festive and sustainable.”
