On Thursday 6th November, our Year 7s were excited to attend a talk in the Main Hall by Exams Study Expert, William Wadsworth, on the topic of ‘How to Ace Senior School: Strategies for Smart Scholars’.
The aim of this talk was to provide insight to Year 7 about good study habits and how our brains work when revising. The talk started with the brief psychology behind how our memories work, before delving into long-term memory and how to start building it when it comes to studying. To practice this, Year 7 were given some facts about sea otters for them to write down, which they were then tested on. After learning some fun facts, and what a mustelid is, William ended on how to best train and start these learning habits.
Willaim commented, “It was a joy to talk to Year 7 today about study skills, it was a wonderful session! Getting into good habits as early as Year 7, in terms of the way we learn and learning effectively, is such a useful thing. If we can form good habits now, then there is much less to unlearn later. It’s so much better if we can get those foundations right in Year 7 in terms of the way we approach our learning revising for our tests and exams, and staying on top of our schoolwork throughout the whole year.’
