The entire Year 9 cohort were invited to celebrate the start of the new term with theme park rides and chocolate galore on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th September!
“The idea behind this trip is for Year 9 students and their tutors to get to know one another. It’s a chance to mix, mingle and make friends whilst engaged in some really fun team building activities.” explained Sally Saunders, Head of Year 9.
Sally, together with the majority of the Year 9 tutor team, took 76 students to the midlands for their adventure, visiting Cadbury World in Birmingham and Gulliver’s World in Warrington. Cadbury World offered a chance to understand the history of this iconic brand and learn more about the manufacturing processes behind the sweet treat. For our students it was also a chance to learn more about the school’s Quaker heritage as the Cadbury family were instrumental in the founding of Leighton Park.
Gulliver’s World not only offered a base for overnight accommodation but provided a series of entertaining activities such as mini-golf, archery, a firepit and an evening karaoke and disco, as well as a full theme park of exciting rides for the Saturday. The group were pleased to spend time exploring together, sharing meals and making memories over the two days.
Sam (Year 9) enthused: “I had a really fun time on the trip to Cadbury World and Gulliver’s World. My favourite bit was definitley the disco where i did the karaoke and sang ‘Three Little Birds’ by Bob Marley. I also loved Cadbury World and learning about the history of the Cadbury family and its Quaker ties. Lots of the new people are really nice and they had a great time too. Overall I had a brilliant time and a trip that the Year 8s should look forward to!” Connie agreed saying: “It has been really good to be able to bond with the new students and make new friends, as it has been a really fun new experience.”
