Going for Gold

From Friday 15th to Saturday 17th November, Leighton Park’s largest-ever Gold Duke of Edinburgh cohort began their Gold DofE journey with a training weekend in the Brecon Beacons. Based at Llangorse Activity Centre, the Lower Sixth students worked with experienced mountain leaders to master navigation, teamwork, and expedition planning.

Saturday’s hands-on sessions in the hills helped our students build confidence and develop essential outdoor skills, while evening sessions focused on planning next year’s assessed expedition. The weekend also fostered camaraderie as students bonded over shared meals (all planned and budgeted for by alternating groups of students), group challenges and teamwork, as well as self-led hike.

This successful start has set the stage for the Snowdonia Practice Expedition in May. Congratulations to all participants on an inspiring beginning to their DofE journey!
